How to get rid of …

“How to get rid of …” the name of our new project, let us give you some more details for a clearer picture. It is a project to join Halve Waste*. The goal of Halve Waste is to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill by Half. So the project is simply about Waste Management.

In recent years, people have grown the awareness that Energy and Waste have become big issue and will soon affect many changes in our way of live. In the large scale, government and related private sectors are working towards creating new policies to resolve those issues. One of the solution is building more recycle facilities.

However, this can be effective only if everyone understands the system and assist in the process. Halve Waste have been doing a big job in promoting and educating our community about these process.

We come across this when we learnt that Halve Waste would give sponsorship to community group who likes to run a project about waste management. The Good Friends Albury Inc. has been receiving goods donation and put through our eco-friendly process to fixed them up to be in good working condition or parting and sell them to generate income to support our local temple for the last 3 years. We consider that our knowledge, equipment and experience could be extended to be something more for our local community.

Let’s get back to the name now. Let’s say if you add the word at the end to be “How to get rid of unwanted stuff” or “How to get rid of thing in the garage”

You could have few options that those things you want to get rid of won’t end up in landfill:

•             Donate It

•             Sell it online

•             Hold a garage sale.

These options are good ways to get rid of your unwanted stuff providing that it is in good conditions, so someone else will be able to use them.

You will find sometimes the charity shops do not accept electrical goods, thing that are broken or not in working condition.

This is the gap that our project will help fill up.

We can accept goods in working/not working condition, badly scratch, dent, rusty, broken, missing parts.

List 1

Washing Machine

Clothes Dryer

Dishwasher

List 2

Other Household electrical goods except fridge and air condition

Power tools

Kitchen equipment

Garden Tools

List 3

Furniture that combine of metal structure and MDF/Timber/Hard Plastic

For example, Trestle Table, Metal Structure Chair, Bed (No Mattress)

Not accept furniture with glass

In this initial phase of the project, we may take goods more broadly to study to create new list of what we can accept. We consider taking goods that parts can be separate to reuse, repurpose and recycle. This will significantly divert them from ending up in landfill.

From the initial phase, the project will be closely studied. We will later be able to show photos, the how to and the statistic of the process. This will encourage people and give them some knowledge to separate things and bring them to the recycle centre themselves.

This project will run from 18 October 2020 to 31 December 2020
